Ukraine

Ukraine is the second largest country in Europe, but compared to the western countries it´s nearly undiscovered by tourism. From Berlin to Lviv it´s not that far than from Berlin to Paris, but it seems like being much further away and hard to reach. This is not true!
Being part on the Soviet Union it was difficult to visit until the early 90ies. This changed during the last few years and nowadays it’s straightforward to travel there.
One of the biggest prejudice or better called fear is about the existence of organised crime (Mafia). Certainly there will be something like that, but tourists are not really their targets.
Of course it cannot be said that travelling in Ukraine is like travelling in well developed tourist country. There are still many relicts of the Soviet Union to face, like bureaucracy, policemen fining you, difficult road conditions, but things are improving quickly.
Generally the 52 million of Ukrainian people are very friendly and helpful. The country`s got many different highlights to offer: historic places like churches, monasteries and fortresses, wonderful landscape with great hiking opportunities in the Carpathian Mountains, beach resorts at the Black sea and many more things!
... and not to be forgotten the good food and good drinks!
